Many events take place throughout the year at Brook Lane, and as they happen, reports and photos will be posted on this page.
30 August 2008 - Hillcrest Road second annual Fun Day
Welcome to our first ever Fun Day (better late than never) report!
We hope you find this report interesting, please let us have any feedback on the event or the report. Also, if you have any further ideas or suggestions on how we can make the Fun Day event an even more exciting experience for young and old, please let us know. We are also thinking about the possibility of a Christmas event next year. Let us know your views.
We put this event together to provide opportunities for our residents (longstanding and new) to socialise and have fun together in a fun and relaxed environment. Feedback we've recieved so far suggests that people have valued and welcomed this event.
We made a small surplus after expenses of £150. This money will go towards two key children's activities run by our local church (Brook Lane Community Church) for the children in this area:
Mighty Kids (5 - 10 year olds) - Tuesdays (6pm - 7pm)
Lazar Club (10 - 14 year olds) - Saturdays (6.30pm - 8.30pm)
Some of the funds wil be used to help subsidise Lazar Club outings i.e. bowling, swimming, and theme parks.
We will also be using part of the money to purchase a set of goals for the young football enthusiasts on our road that will encourage them to play together in an organised and friendly way, and to build valuable relationships and friendships.
The fun day was packed with lots of fun activities for all the family to enjoy, with face painting by our artist Debbie Vanderwerf, fun and games run by our children's worker Andrew Wilmshurst, donkey rides, a bouncy castle, and apple bobbing, to name but a few! We also had the Bromley fire brigade and our very own PCSOs from Burnt Ash to join in the fun. They eagerly participated in some of the fun packed events of the day.
Also a very popular and useful associate to our street was Councillor Colin Smith, who opened up the event, and as charming as he always is helped to make this day the success it turned out to be. Thank you Colin and the team at Bromley Council for all your suport and contribution to the day!
After talking to some of our residents, I was glad to hear that the hard work paid off. We recieved some great comments and feedback that always makes it well worth the effort. One neighbour said
"It was a great day; there used to be street parties many years ago and it was great to see and to experience something similar, it sparked fond memories."
Another resident thought that the day was a great opportunity to get to know her neighbours and to make some new friends. So, for all those that helped on the day and to all that attended I'm sure that you all agree that it was a great success and we are all looking forward to 2009.
On that note, we would particularly like to thank all the neighbouring shops who helped with donations, including:
| Minns | who donated the use of their dust bins |
| Waitrose | who donated £50 in vouchers |
| The Magic Shop | who kindly donated the cups and serviettes |
| The Co-op | for donating the coal for our BBQ and some drinks |
| The Downham Butchers' | for the meats for the BBQ |
| Burnt Ash School | for the loan of their games equipment |
And... DJ Ken for his karaoke equipment and great voice!
Many thanks to all our residents and friends that volunteered and came along to support this event.
See you all next year for another spectacular!
Steve and Lisa Harris, Andrew and Emily Junaid
